Frequently Asked Questions

  • Nope. Our company name has long been Passaic County CASA, and that was fine when there was only one program. However, over time, the New Jersey Safe Babies Court Team and Open Door Store were added as programs, which meant CASA wasn't the only work being done, and Passaic wasn't the only county being reached. After expanding into Union County to serve foster children there, it became clear that we need to be operating under a name that's more clear, that doesn't limit by geography, and that encompasses all of our programs. After all, we run the CASA programs in Passaic and Union counties, the New Jersey Safe Babies Court Team that reaches Essex, Hudson, and Passaic counties, and the Open Door Store that reaches children in foster care in all of these counties. As Child Focus, we draw a clear line between who we are, and the programs that we operate.

  • A new name allows us to expand our program services in a way that avoids identity confusion, and allows us to operate in multiple counties in New Jersey without people thinking we are solely about Passaic County — something we already do, given Safe Babies Court Team operates in Passaic, Essex and Hudson, and the CASA program operates in Passaic and Union!

  • Yes, our CASA program is still affiliated with CASA of New Jersey and the National CASA/GAL Association for Children. We continue to work in close collaboration with both organizations and we continue to adhere to New Jersey and National standards.

  • Children in foster care will not be affected by the CASA program now being a program of Child Focus. They will continue to dedicated care and attention from staff and volunteers alike.

  • Yes you can — volunteers are needed at the program level, and our flagship program for volunteers is the Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) program. • No, we are not an adoption agency. We work with children that have been removed from their homes due to abuse or neglect and are living in foster care.
